If you are looking for the thrill of paying an average price for regular services, being charged for any added value the service may offer and being humiliated and/or diminished in the process you need to become a fan of the Easy Group in Europe. (Easy Jet, Easy Hotel and Easy Money at the end) a UK based business idea, being awfully successful with the easyeverything internet cafes in the 90´s.

Last week I went to Amsterdam for a work trip of on week and tried the EasyJet experience / nightmare.

We booked a flight for two people that was 270€ with a 20kg suitcase, no food included and only one piece of hand luggage. We checked ourselves in online and arrived to the Airport 2 hours in advance for checking the luggage after a 20 minute line. One the passenger beside us had a problem because she had her passport but did not bring her other ID, so she lost her ticket, no refund and could not fly to her destination even having her passport, that was her problem the Easyjet employee claimed.

We go to the gate and find that all the drunks, party weekenders, noisy cheap tourists, and eurotrash available in town gathered there to flight with us and with some other terrified first timers. Waiting in the gate we noticed that our boarding pass had no seat number, so we would have to fight with other passengers to get a decent seat or even be seated together with your travel companion. quite awful but as we are supposed to pay low, then I guess we need to suffer a bit, you pay either with money or with dignity.

During the boarding announcement the flight attendant specified that no more than one piece could be carried, no personal computers, no handbangs, no shopping, no purses, no nothing or a charge of 50€ (do not know if this is legal) would apply. Most passengers managed to put their purse, computer and handbag in one bigger bag and even a couple got a trash bin bag to put it all together and squeeze it to fit the maximum size. Ok passport and ID check again, justin case we could charge or leave someone else, but wait! there is Speedy Boarding! Some smart passengers have paid 20€ extra to their ticket price for jumping th line and having 1 or 2 extra minutes to enter the plane first and get a decent seat, now we know why there are no seat numbers...to be able to sell them!

No problem, but the next thing: the plane has to ¨taxi¨ from the lsat end of the airport for around 20 minutes to able to tae off. In the meantime advertisements in our seats, sell us the sandwich and try to make us obey on buying an awful menu. How could I get to enjoy anything at those ridiculous prices? These people never heard about value for money.

Freedom in the 21st century has taken a complex meaning . The notion of power at all levels has become a matter of money and capacity of manipulation, causing a distortion in our minds and changing the meaning of justice, security and wellbeing.

Citizens still believe in the possibility of a fair system that will provide and protect shelter, education and security for the people of a country while the system itself changes the other way around being ruled by the logic of markets and consumption. The notion of nation has changed drastically since the fall of ideologies and the end of cold war in the 80´s. Corporate and business mindsets set the logic of governments and states.

Some interesting facts to understand this logic may be

The creation of new countries during the 90´s in the balkans as a result of the war for the drug dealing industry entering Europe from Asia.

Local multimillionaires and family dynasties looking for absolute power in their regions, controlling companies, politics, foundations, law and banks.

New absolutism / nationalism and cultural segregation as a tool to make the masses create new political orders via ¨democracy¨.

Some regions believe the more nationalistic and radical they become the more possibilities of becoming a nation they have. but is that really independence or does it become a form of isolation and endogamy?

Nationalistic movements have been seen in the future with catastrophic results, when pushing the limits of cultural identity into cultural exclusion and segregation. Perhaps a way of developing a strong identity and being mentally independent is being more open to the internal diversity and understanding our own culture is not a set of rules imposed by a government or a group, but the recognition of internal common interests, purposes and talents.

Independence may not have anything to do with those we think of as our enemies or what they have done to us in the past, but with building a future and a culture that are inclusive and organic inside.

Here is a list of regions and communities currently claiming independence across Europe my big question is what is their approach to the notion of independence?
Let´s see why local retail is not really competitive and what seems to be the commercial standard.

If you walk the commercial street of a city like Barcelona you´ll find many attractive images in advertising, promotional materials and events that encourage you to buy goods and services, many of them developed by international and local campaigns. Fresh food, fancy clothes, luxury experiences do not usually comply to WYSWYG policies. Let´s explore a bit further.

Under the slogan of Spain is Different Manuel Fraga, a dictator Franco´s advisor promoted a country where because of "being different" tourist were forced to accept all kinds of outstandards, scams, and abuse in products and services, offered to them while visiting.

From this point many businesses have been inventing their own rules about prices, customer service, and product standards for years, when it comes to complying with quality and service, based on the belief, that people would buy anywy and they may not see them again.

But times change, prosumers grow and what worked for Mr. Fraga in the 60´s is now just "... a common phrase to joke about Spanish lousy mentality..." as Wikipedia notes about the campaign. Nowadays and after the economic crisis has made Spain fall into a new position in the world, all these beliefs are subject to change, hopefully...soon.

Shopping for goods at departments stores can give you surprises like sales people affirming that products you know and use, simply do not exist in the market or things they just do not know, have apparenty never been built. These type of answers usually followed by "es lo que hay" (sort of "that is all you´ll get" ) leave you breathless and discourage to buy again or even try to buy.
Trying to find someone to give you information on options, colours, sizes, materials, functions or specifications will be useless unless you are lucky and find that the salesperson from abroad (usually Latinamerica, USA or Canary Islands), then you´ll have a smile and some assistance. Double priced products are found in most big stores, meaning that you may find the exact same item with two different prices at the same store or finding the same item at different prices in different shops located in different areas of the city. Be cautious with this.

I do have to admit, shop designers and marketeers do their job right, storefronts, ads, displays, shop-windows, catalogues and most websites are very seductive and get us into the shops, but once you are inside, another story is being told.

Overrated, overpriced and often crappy is the feeling of many visitors about their shopping and gastronomic experiences.

If you plan to go for dinner, restaurants hold the same policy, do not expect to be well treated, you can easily wait at a bar for 15 minutes to be noticed by the waiter and once he/she arrives will just ask you what you want without bringing a menu or having a visible pricelist, the result : surpise bill with overspriced items. Very often charging extra for items you did not ask for or overcharging on drinks and coffee. If he menu has pictures on it , do not believe what you see because you´ll receive a whole different dish, no "serving suggestion" note is visible either. be ready to pay more for the same dish at night or if you choose a table outside. very good and expensive restaurants can be found across Barcelona but for me after almost 10 years around here it has been hard to find value for money.

I guess the Spanish fashion industry is a vivid example of what I am trying to expres here. Inditex found its way to global business, selling very low quality clothes, copied from real designers to be sold in pretencious shops that look like real fashion stores, located in big malls or fancy avenues.
Clothes from Zara, Mango, Oysho, Stradivarious or any of the brands from Inditex will luckily survive three time in the washing machine, even the Beijing Consumer Association has legally confronted Zara about bad quality in their products. Prices are good, but what about value for money? Has anyone ever heard about that here?

Why are Spaniards always trying to "Vender la Moto"? ( a very common expression when people suspect something is not as much as it is being described as). These things permanently intrigue me and make wonder about how much of is cultural, just a national attitude, or a trace of collective identity.

I hope times change and a new generation of Spaniards will not repeat these traditions when making business, working with customers or developing a slogan that sells this country. It may be time for a change of mind, style and behaviour.

In a future post I´ll write about HQ Spanish products and companies, I promise. For the time being, check out a couple of references on the current topic:
Parents, government, husbands, teachers, caretakers and all those institutions an people that permanently create theresources for other people to fill their needs and enjoy wellbeing. But gives back to them?

In Europe, it is quite frequent to see people complain about everything they wish and do not have permanently unsatisfied with the things and services the welfare state provides them with.

Most people blame politicians, the system and the government about any small detail or circumstance they do not feel fulfilled or compleatly pleased with ignoring everything they receive and thier own resposibility and implication with society. Completely eluding their own responsibility as part of the community and the system and denying they can also make a change, contribute to other people´s lives and make the world a better place.

Years and years of State paternalism has made citizens think they have to have everything for granted and make no effort to build anything, or work to make a change beyond their small region. regionalism pride and egocentrism make the differences bolder rather than creating a real union in Europe.

Demanding is a thing most people know how to do. Asking for things, criticizing everything and complaining about everything making almost everything impossible is an easy task. But who is willing to give?

Who willing to compromise or get involved? Who sees beyond their own needs?
Providers do.

So here is the question again?
Where does the energy and commitment of providers come from?
How can they go on and on making efforts to provide unless others give back to them or they can fill their own needs?
Who cares about them?

Walking across Barcelona I recently found that the brand new Arenas Shopping Mall has taken the opportunity to charge its visitors for using the lift (1€ per ride). Locals, tourists and families gathered on a long line to use the elevator and the reach the upper terrace. Two guys from Arenas Staff charge and provide instructions of use to excited visitors willing to pay for this exciting adventure..
Buying the lift ride makes it exciting, because in our minds only those things we pay for are good and worthy.

Moving away from the idealization of perfect love and perfect sex, what I find more often in current media and culture is a strange mix of sex and show business that seems to invade people´s private lives.

I know we learn all we know from media these days, but where did the instinct go? Where are the movies about love making? sexualities of the world or expressing love trough sex? It all seems to be set, made up and decorated to be broadcasted and uploaded.

Either it has become more marketable when became more public or either we do everything the way movies tell.

Running away from staged sex in tv and movies I started exploring sexual social networks, where people and also companies upload all kind of visuals around sex, from intimate, personal videos to fake amateur movies. I guess diversity in content is one big plus for the internet.

After the show I guess real sexuality is almost never seen in media and I guess it is because it won´t sell. May be perceived as boring, may seem too long and uninteresting to audience makers.

Real sexuality (or the sexuality people practice at home) may be a mix of our instinct and the mandate of media we have learned for years. Sometimes fitting Hollywood standards and sometimes just connecting people´s feelings and emotions.

I still personally find much more, moving, interesting, eye catching and arousing those pictures and videos people do in the privacy of their homes with their couples (both legal or illegal) that express love, passion and connection, than all the porn industry paraphernalia that tries to fill stereotypical fantasies, that are supposed to be collective and desirable. (big cocks, big boops, hard fucker, multiple orgasms, etc.)

What do you feel when you go to bed?
Hollywood standard of personal connection?
Is porn really sex?
is our sexuality just conservative porn?

Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey
Robbie Dempseyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16402245221882436818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787212452119440461.post-27854148483693938552011-07-23T06:43:00.000-07:002011-07-23T07:31:58.481-07:00Anders Behring Breivik · A souvenir from the Jungle

Recently , local newspapers have been publishing ¨news¨ about fighting street vendors, that sell ¨illegal¨ copies of designer bags, fake sunglasses, ¨illegal¨ cds and dvds and that kind of good, getting to the point to make them look like very dangerous and aggressive criminals society must be afraid of and in consequence exterminate.

But, if you look at them closely, you can discover most of them are just teenager that ran away from their our countries, many of them risking their life in a deadly trip to get the the promised land of the first world, where they are treated worse that we treat our street dogs or cats. When I make them visible to my eyes I see young men trying to make a living from whatever they can to be able to earn some euros they have to send back to their homes or pay a big percent to someone else.

Usually under terrible human conditions, they are hunted, questioned, captured, beaten, humiliated by everyone around them. It is ok to donate for Africa from our savings accounts but none cares a bit about the when they are around the corner,They will have to run every time the police is around and be afraid of being around everyday, while we pretend they do not exist.

Why can they get some opportunities, education or jobs or social assistance when they are already here? because they are black? foreign?, speak other languages and believe in other gods?

In the meantime, European companies and governments exploit their natural resources back in their countries, to provide the first world market with nice jewelery, mobile phones, gadgets and fuel.

Hunting the vulnerable and making the population hate them seems to be the rule number one, to be part of the first world and a welfare state.
When my mother reached certain age, every summer she would trnasform in a different animal if touched deep currrent water.

Our job was to help return home safely without her getting lost, hunt or stolen by anyone in the region.

it happened several times. In the first tiem she became a dog and wonderdered in the streets, not being able to tell us what happened and who was trying to make her dissapear. as soon as she turned vack, we not everyone wanted to help get back home safe.

In the second year, we were walking by the river when she received a call. my sister who was 7 months pregnant was about to have her baby. She run son fast to help her that fell deep in the river.

One of our employees and me had to dive into his river full of fish to find her. she had become a pony this time, with same color she was wearing black an white, a strong beautiful pony would run so much to be safe.

But this year I suddenly knew some of our employees trying to make her disappear the year before. she never told us but I could know by the way this guy run into her. he wasn´t helping. He was hunting her.

As soon as I stepped out of the water saw the fear in this pony´s eyes. I called her several times, asking her to be visible to me while she ran into the woods protecting herself from us.
Suddenly she appeared to me and stared asking me to run with her, but this time instead of jumping into the river again we followed the river path.

When we arrived to our home, people from the town admired the pony, tried to buy it and steal it, tried to tie it and seduce it, but it keep walking beside me all day, non stop, til it fell exhausted when entering a shopping mall. there in the middle of the crown the transformation began from horse to woman again.

A big celebration took place in my family that day. we know knew we would all become animals for a day, every year in the summer. We had to take care of each other, because we were different and everyone knew.
Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey
Robbie Dempseyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16402245221882436818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787212452119440461.post-12757922092062280012010-10-13T20:39:00.000-07:002010-10-13T20:39:44.286-07:00Como reconocer y combatir a los Vampiros Profesionales?
Published on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 3:52am

·Quieren conocer a tus amigos, empleados y colaboradores.

Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey
Robbie Dempseyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16402245221882436818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787212452119440461.post-10229785803723716742010-09-05T05:43:00.000-07:002011-01-30T03:05:17.119-08:00Suddenly, Violence and Cruelty are Fun
I guess it is a way of protecting ourselves from psychological shock and pain.

When I was a little kid, I remember being very scared of dolls in the dark. I would imagine their eyes moved stared at me and blinked. I imagined their mouth moving whispering strange words and singing. I imagined their head moving. All that produced by my mind and mostly by my fear of being alone in the dark. I used to freeze, cry, run, hide and finally not sleep at all.

But I got tired of it. and decided to face them. Si I waited for the night and surrounded myself with dolls, ready to fight, but nothing happened, they didn´t even blink. Then I supposed it was inside me and not in them.

Some years after that, I started dreaming about the dolls. Every night a doll would attack me in my dreams, followed me and tried to chase me. They would have knives and monster faces. This was worse because in my dreams I wouldn't feel ready to fight, anything could happen and they would be super powerful. So I decided to make them real and fight them in my arena. That fear had to be beaten, either in my mind in reality or in both.

I got about 20 used baby dolls, found, stole and bought them and with make up, fire and resin disfigured their faces and hands and made monsters of them. They would live in my room, sleep with me and be part of my world until the fear was gone. That was my decision. I saw them everyday, every night and every morning when I woke up. I kept them beside me at home. After a month, there was nothing they could do to me any more, I wouldn´t even notice them, they became irrelevant to me.

Then the movie showed up. the Chucky series was on screens for years. That was my hardest test. Images and situations that were not controlled by me. The game of public fear. I saw them again and again. Until I understood its purpose, its mechanisms and the way people would massively and automatically respond of this kind of images an stories.

Fear is a powerful tool to rule. It is a weapon inside our adversary, inside or slave. If you let your fears be started up or controlled by outsiders, you are done. they will be inside your mind until you sleep with you fear and face it. Say insurance, banks, health services, grandma, government, mom, girlfriend, boss, wife, husband, anyone or anything that detonates those fears inside you.

Violence and Cruelty in the media, work as tools to keep us silent, afraid and obedient. Fear and insecurity block our intelligence and creativity. They make us docile. We find It exciting as it is addictive. A limit between dying an surviving.

A recent wave of tv shows and series insist on showing direct violence, blood, tragedy and cruelty (from xfiles to niptuck, true blood or even dexter). Fear is constantly communicated to widespread stories in television, cinema and books. Feeding audiences with fear and uncertainty make softer audiences that do not think clearly, do not make smart decision, and do not show any criticism or opinion to other kinds of messages.

Fear and uncertainty are the best allies for insurance companies, low return investments, bad credit conditions, medical policies, retirement plans, and even the beauty and food industry, etc. All these companies develop messages based in people´s fears , fill us with uncertainty and then come to rescue us with services that do not exist.

Corporate and state terrorism work in a similar way. Fear of the economic crisis for example, makes us consume, work and pay taxes in a different way, Fear of losing our job, homes and comfort makes us obey whatever law or action the government may take in favor or banks and corpora tons to raising taxes or diminishing citizens rights. When we are afraid we do not think clearly.

So if you are afraid of something, just face it , analyze it, think why you fear that, what symbols are behind it and what does it move inside you. Then control it, see it, hear it, live with it and make it afraid of you. Don´t just let yourself go and enjoy it.

Fear is just a form of control today.

Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey

Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey
Robbie Dempseyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16402245221882436818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787212452119440461.post-58624954180560421312010-09-04T20:14:00.000-07:002010-09-05T05:50:01.089-07:00blood lost its meaningIn recent years television series, news, art, fashion, books, music, and even children´s toys an games involve blood in the form of joke, vampire, surgery, decoration and even food. Blood stood for year in mind as an intimate, special and private matter frequently an emergency symbol.

Right now blood is no longer relevant. It doesn´t mean death, war or danger. It became low fat blood.

People see it and laugh and don't care, it does not mean anything any more. it is like seeing water or coca cola, just another red thing, just another liquid. But this makes us unsensitive to suffering, pain, death or sacrifice, makes us indifferent and cold to other people.makes our heart harder.

Blood should mean, should put us in alert, should make us care and it shoulnd´t be a joke.

In the animal kingom, blood does have a meaning, means danger, food and survival, means death, means pain an means lack of protection.

Maybe we are getting dumb and letting our natural instincts die, we are forgetting about us being alive, we are slowly becoming neutral, gray, flat.

WHY IS THIS?
Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey
Robbie Dempseyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16402245221882436818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787212452119440461.post-88137820141804811032010-09-04T19:33:00.000-07:002010-09-04T21:09:08.400-07:00Keeping my mind clearAnd now as if it wasn´t enough in my mind I have to worry abuout keeping it clear from hidden media messages, staying center in a sea o disturbing information that drives me away from the thing I dream and want to achieve.

Observing daily life around me I seee things change and become more complex everytime. I see media putting on my face things I normaly refuse or avoid.

Blood as an irrelevant presence.

Violence and cruelty as fun.

Porn instead of sexuality.

Conspiracies instead of government.

A fake ecology.

Clothes as uniforms.

Food as poison.

Poverty and misery instead of progress.

All of them things that put me apart from my real connection with the world and stand between my mind and the universe, like trying to distract me from what is inside me and real.

I ask myself why all this things suddenly appear. Why so many similar things at the same time. Why everything so standard? Has my vision broaden? has my brain woken up from some anaesthesic state?

I see people behaving like automats that don't think for themselves but act a stereotyped dolls, afraid of having an identity and willing to fit in a classification. just following a very predictable path a very obvious life, without expectation, just programmed surprises and fake excitement during their holidays, predictable answers, predictable jokes, predictable reactions, all inside a safezone that lets them stay comfortable and grow their fear of being themselves.
Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey

Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey
Robbie Dempseyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16402245221882436818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787212452119440461.post-207929500923778842010-08-04T13:38:00.000-07:002010-09-04T21:11:25.547-07:00Looking forward for a changeafter six years of working hard and advancing very slowly I think I have seen the real face of this city and may even the general face of the country. And I don´t like it.

being 41 now, with my dreams and projects on hold is a very difficult situation. Should I give up and stay here trying to survive and forgetting about being constantly tormented by expectations and impossible ideas or should I start again in a new environment and give it a try for the third...maybe fourth time?

I now wish to run away from mediocrity, laziness, lack of interest and rudeness, but am I going in the right direction?

leaving this Virtual country and virtual city, where everything is a lie, just a facade may be a good a idea, but on the other side I don´t really know the place where I am going, don´t know the language and dont´t know their way.

this is not my place and know know but where is it, once I thought my place would be anywhere I was. I thought I would adapt and survive and I´ve done it. Now I feel I just belong, don´t agree and don´t want to get used to the way it is here.

I am definitively needing a change, a fresh start, an opportunity to try my best again and still try to make before I get too disappointed about myself in this world.
Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey

solo pienso, pienso y pienso,

Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey

Eurpean Jungles By Robbie Dempsey
Robbie Dempseyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16402245221882436818noreply@blogger.com0
